Tutor

The Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes is looking to hire individuals to provide individual, small group, and drop-in style tutoring to student-athletes to enhance academic skills through teaching study skills and strategies, and clarifying questions related to the content within ASPSA’s facilities throughout the academic year. Student-Athlete Tutorial Services employs tutors for all subject areas. Schedules are flexible, but we require at least 6 hours/week.

(current NC State students only)

Please note:

All applicants must have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average, demonstrate proficiency in coursework, and/or have received a B+ or higher in the courses selected to tutor. Must abide by North Carolina State University, NCAA and ASPSA rules and regulations. Must be able to teach academic success strategies to a wide range of students in a one-on-one or small group setting. Must have the ability to effectively communicate verbally and have skills to develop written reports. Must be attentive to detail and accurate in record keeping. Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends. Preference can be given to individuals who have tutoring experience or other educational qualifications.

Tutor Application

Writing Assistant

The Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes is currently recruiting education professionals and pre-professionals who are passionate about teaching students from a wide range of educational backgrounds who have a variety of academic needs. Writing assistants will work in ASPSA’s writing center to support student-athletes writing across multiple disciplines. Schedules are flexible, but we require at least 5 hours/week.

Candidates should have:
* Demonstrated understanding of how to support struggling writers across multiple disciplines
* Demonstrated understanding of teaching basic reading and writing skills
* Ability to work with students from a variety of educational backgrounds
* Ability to quickly assess a piece of writing and give constructive feedback at any stage of the writing process
* Experience working with students from multiple socio-economic, ethnic, or educational backgrounds
* Demonstrated ability to act with the highest level of integrity while supporting students
* Cumulative GPA of 3.3 (undergraduate) or 3.5 (graduate)
* Two years of undergraduate education preferred

Writing Assistant Application

Academic Mentor

Assist with the enhancement of student-athletes’ academic skills through academic mentoring while abiding by ASPSA and NCAA policies and procedures. ASPSA mentors assist at-risk student-athletes in developing important areas of learning for academic success such as time management, goal setting, self-advocacy, study strategies, test preparation, note-taking, and reading comprehension. Mentors have the opportunity to learn new teaching and mentoring strategies through interaction with administrators and participation in training.

Minimum Experience/Education if any:
* Enrolled in a master’s, professional or teacher education program
* Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in a related field
* Experience working with at-risk, non-traditional students
* Ability to relate to students of a wide range of academic backgrounds
* Must have excellent communication and organization skills
* Willingness to work in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment

Work Schedule:
* Available to work 8-10 hours a week, day and evening

Mentor Application

Study Hall Monitor

* Enforce all ASPSA facility rules and consistently report any issues to an ASPSA staff member
* Give friendly, efficient and empathetic responses for all interactions with facility occupants
* Monitor check-in/check-out for all student-athletes entering the facility
* Facilitate and maintain a study environment conducive to learning
* Additional duties include special projects as assigned 
* The successful candidate should possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and have a high attention level for detail. Must have computer software applications skills to develop written reports. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from a wide range of educational, cultural, and economic backgrounds. Must be able to work nights and weekends.

Study Hall Monitor position is closed for the Fall 2026 semester. If interested in Spring 2027 employment, please return in October when the application reopens.
